Document Summary

Group members should have the ability to interact w/ each other. Interdependence: need to in some ways have some kind of shared goals, shared space, in a way in which you need each other to depend on one another. Nonsocial group -> social group; ex. standing in line for a book, not talking to anyone, but suddenly someone does smthg (social object involved), and then the group interacts. What does cohesiveness do > promotes liking and ingroup favouritism. Social norm: prescription for your behaviour (naked guy) Social roles: a group"s expectations for the behaviour and responsibilities of various subgroups of its members. Constitute a strong situation that could bowl over an ind"s personality (prison/guard exper) Group cohesiveness: the degree to which a group is or is percieved to be close knit and similar to one another (ex. sorority/frat members) Only lasted 6 days when it should have been 2 weeks bc it intensified so quickly.
