Motivation & emotion: motivation is goal orientated > direct or behaviour towards some particular goal, when thirsty we motivated to seek a beverage of some sort. Emotion drives behaviour; can lead to particular actions or behavioural tendencies. Emotion are different because they arise automatically due to things we previewing in environment like threatening stimuli, not directing us to a goal > Automatic response we have to our thoughts and perceptions: motivation pursues us to pertain a particular reward. Both share ability to arouse organism and stimulate behaviour > but motivation is speci c, if we thirsty we buy something to drink. Emotions encourage different behaviours > when afraid, we may freeze, hide, or run; not very specific to what we do. Hypothalamus essential to maintain homeostasis > connects nervous system with endocrine system. Different regions important for different aspects of hunger. Ventromedial region no longer to work properly, leads to excessive eating.
