Analytic Intelligence: ability to reason logically
for high IQ, GRE, SAT scores
book smarts
Creative intelligence ("outside the box")
often predicts job performance
Practical intelligence ("street smarts")
ability to solve real-world problems, esp. those involving
other people
also predicts job performance
Sternberg has not demonstrated that practical intelligence
is independent of G, could just be a subtype
Intelligence Testing (IQ)
Mean/average of IQ scores: 100
IQ = Mental age/Chronological age X 100
Mental age = age corresponding to the avg individual's
performance on an intelligence test
Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale: most widely used
intelligence test for adults today, consisting of
fourteen subtests to assess different types of mental
abilities
Yields 3 Scores:
Overall IQ score
Verbal IQ score (vocab, comprehension…)
crystallized
Performance (non-verbal; pictures, memory…) IQ score
fluid
Stanford-Binet IQ test
Cultural-fair IQ tests: abstract reasoning items that
don't depend on language and are often believed to
be less influenced by cultural factors than other IQ
tests - lower reliance on language, do more pictorial -
