Document Summary

Step 5: primary sensory cortex: initial processing of information occurs. Step 6: further processing in many other brain areas, linked to higher level cognitive & perceptual tasks: e. g. , what & where pathways. Processing of visual information occurs in a series of steps, from initial coarse processing of relatively basic features,(e. g. , line orientation, color, movement) to more complex processing(e. g. , face and object recognition, 3-dimensional space) Huble & wiesel examined the firing rate of single cells in the primary visual cortex: many were specialized to respond to particular features: primitives Dorsal pathway superior ventral lobes parietal lobes; processes spatial location. Ventral pathway inferior temporal lobes; specializes in object recognition. Raises kittens who, from birth, were only allowed to see out of one eye. Result: cells in the visual cortex respond almost entirely to signals f. One group of cats seeing only vertical lines another group seeing only horizontal lines, both with two eyes. Kittens seeing vertical lines only with two eyes.
