PSY220H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Overjustification Effect, Problem Set, Spinach
Document Summary
Self-enhancement biasis is when people rate themselves above average on any task that they are asked about statistically this is impossible. Its not a representative samples; so usually these studies are done in institutions that are very highly known so in that sense the students are above average compared to the populations! So they are just reporting honestly b/c those students are used to succeeding rather than failing don"t involve motivation but lead to the same results. What this suggests is that if you want to claim that the phenomenon you are talking about is a motivated phenomenon, then you need to be able to rule out non-motivated explanations. Often a cognitive explanation is based on expectancies. Challenge: to prove that the affect is motivational; so how does motivation influence our behavior : how does motivation influence. Motivation cognition behavior: motivated memory search.
