Document Summary
Attitude: a cognitive representation that summarizes an individuals evaluation of a particular attitude o(cid:271)je(cid:272)t. o(cid:374)(cid:272)e (cid:449)e k(cid:374)o(cid:449) so(cid:373)eo(cid:374)e"s attitude, (cid:449)e (cid:272)a(cid:374) use that to predi(cid:272)t so(cid:373)eo(cid:374)e"s (cid:271)eha(cid:448)ior. Attitudes have: direction (valence) positive or negative. But sometimes we have an ambivalent attitude- we both hold positive and negative opinions about the same thing. Cupcakes- affective= tastes very good/ cognitive= its not good for us. Attitude object: anything that someone can hold an attitude towards. Classical conditioning (mere exposure to something can cause us to form an attitude about it) Evaluative conditioning can influence the formation of new attitudes as well as existing attitudes (pairing babies and cigarettes/ everyone loves babies so pairing them together will cause people to form positive attitudes about cigarettes) Participants see hundreds of pairings of photograph/ some pokemon characters always paired with positive things, other pokemons always paired with negative things.
