Some measures would differ for children & adults, but the assessment process is the same. Collect information for statistical purposes -> government can use this information. Research -> should apply broadly, not to just the person were working with/on. So other people know what you are talking about (when say depression -> others will know how the patient is presenting) Relief -> know that there is treatment or that its not that serious etc (classification could be a disadvantage because feel labeled, have stigma attached to certain disorders etc. ) Where to draw the line? (i. e is someone who has 4/9 of the depression symptoms but to de considered depressed have to have 5/9 symptomsis it really different?) Classification can be misused -> see stuff/diagnosis that isnt really there (will look for symptoms that agree when its probably just a normal reaction to a situation/event) ->
