Number of disorders that increase arousal until the point of dysfunction. Unpleasant emotional state ranging from mild unease to intense fear. A certain amont of anxiety, however, is normal and serve to improve performances. Rouses you to action, gears you up to face a threatening situation. Sympathetic--part of autonomous nervous system is activated:fight or flight response. Psychophysiological (physical)component which features symptoms such as palptations, sweating and dilated pupils. Is the same as other responses to emotions, therefore hard to distinguish physiological response between others. Psychological component characterized by irritability, lack of conc. Somewhat subjective, may or not be correct due to this. Interpersonal component featuring an inclination to cling to other people for reassurance. Is generated when we perceive to be threatened (real or unreal) Fear is a related emotion, is a response to a direct threat. Perception of threatening stimuli is registered in the frontal lobes of the brain, after limbic system processing (amygdala)
