Major depressive episode dsm-5 (some symptoms are bidirectional appetite, sleep: five or more sx within same 2 weeks. > must be either 1) depressed mood; or 2) marked diminished interest of pleasure in almost all activities (most of the day, nearly every day) > diminished ability to think, concentrate, make a decision. > poor concentration and attention, indecisiveness, poor self-esteem, hopelessness, suicidal thoughts, delusions and hallucinations: emotional. > sadness, depressed mood, anhedonia (loss interest in activities), irritability (esp in children, adolescents: physical and behavioural. > sleep/appetite disturbances, psychomotor retardation/agitation, catatonia, fatigue, loss of energy. Single episode presence of single depressive episode. Recurrent presence of 2 or more episodes (separate episode period of 2 months without depressive sx b/w episodes, otherwise partial remission) > must have mood reactivity (mood brightens in response to something good) > 2 of the following: weight gain/increase appetite; hypersomnia; leaden paralysis (heavy feeling in limbs); interpersonal rejection sensitivity that causes sig. social/occupational impairment: melancholic.
