Chapter 1: the psychology of learning and memory. Learning - the process by which changes in behaviour arise as a result of experience interacting with the world. Memory - the record of our past experiences, which are acquired through learning. Long-term memory - learning causes changes in the brain or connectivity that are irreversible. Working memory - brief memory of anything that the brain is currently working on. Plasticity - way in which the brain is allowed to retain new forms. Adaptation - physiological changes due to ambient conditions. Makes living things different from the order of things. Ability to determine what and where their needs are available. Give us the ability to go somewhere with an acquired bit of information. Increases the probability of success - acquisition of materials, growth and to reproduce. Time - episodic-like memory but entirely different from episodic. Forgetting is the process of overwriting of information.
