Document Summary
Explicit memory that involves conscious recollections of events or facts. Also called declarative memory bc you can make declarations about these memories. Some people aren"t as good at it: semantic memories: not tied to any particular place, time, or event. It"s when you know some sort of fact: autobiographical memories: a subset of of episodic and semantic memory. Implicit memory is memory that affects behaviour without our conscious awareness. Also called nondeclarative bc you can"t declare anything about them. For the first time, they tested whether patients with hippocampal lesions could bind together objects and spatial locations. They found impairments in patients at an 8 second unfilled delay. Many fmri studies also show that brain regions (ex: the hippocampus) thought to support ltm are also involved in stm. These show that stm and ltm might be more related than we initially expected.
