Document Summary
Cognitive neuroscience: the study of the physiological basis of cognition: the mind is a system that creates representations of the world, so that we can act within it. Levels of analysis refers to the idea that a topic can be studied in a number of different ways (different perspectives to add to understanding) Believed to be continuous, and a complex pathway for conducting signals uninterrupted through the network. Density of neurons in newborn brains is less than developed. 1% of the neurons in this newborn brain is less. Cell body: the metabolic center of the neuron contains mechanisms to keep the cell alive. Dendrites: branches that come out from the neuron cell body, it receives signals from other neurons. Axons (nerve fibres): long processes that transmit signals to other neurons. *image on the right shows a neuron with a receptor receiving stimuli from environment.
