Cognitive psychology: chapter 5 short-term and working memory. Important for movies: short-term memory (working memory): information that stays in memory for brief periods, for about 10-15 seconds if not repeated. Everything at the moment" is in short-term memory: long-term memory: responsible for storing information for long periods of time can extend from minutes to a life time. Long-term memory of experiences from past episodic memory. Procedural memory ability to do skills or anything that involve muscle coordination. Semantic memory memories of facts such as addresses, birthday, names of objects, places. E. g. rehearsal (for short term memory) repeating a stimulus over and over. Sensory memory is the retention, for brief periods of time, of the effects of sensory stimulation. When using a sparkler and waving it around, it seems that there is a trail" of light that follows it after swinging it.
