PSY336H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Cognitive Evaluation Theory, Motivation, Introjection
Document Summary
A theory of human nature and growth and what supports and undermines it. Sdt distinguishes between 2 broad types of motivation: Just measuring undifferentiated motivation is an inferior predictor of important outcomes. Operant conditioning: to increase the likelihood of a behavior being repeated, it should be immediately followed by the addition of a positive stimulus (i. e. , reward) or the removal of a negative one. Paying people for doing things doesn"t necessarily lead them to do more of that. Iv: reward status (no reward, known reward, unknown reward) Task: have kids draw with cool markers. Dv: time playing with markers during free time. Found that kids who were rewarded didn"t spend a lot of time playing with markers after, but no reward condition still spent quite a long of time playing with those markers. People who got a reward interpreted it as they"re playing with markers to get a reward rather than thinking it"s a fun task.
