Lecture 6 - Emotions 1. Emotions involve your whole being o Are cognitive and physiological processes as well as emotional 2. Life is very strongly influenced by emotions o EX = (best times, stupidest moments) o Cognition and emotion are highly interwoven 3. If people were primarily economically motivated, then there would be almost no volunteering, chess, liberal arts education, etc. 4. Embodied cognition o Warmth vs. Cold as embodied metaphor for relationship closeness If holding a warmcold drink, you will feel closermore distant from friends and family 5. Framing effects - top down processing; once a frame of thought is adopted, all thought processes adhere to that frame o Works because it shifts the emotional tone and then shifts thinking pattern to be consistent with that tone 6.
