The negative emotional system was built to be very easily activated, and to turn our cognitive ststems offline. As we cognitively complexified and developed all these abilities, we also developed the ability to extend our emotional episodes far longer than they would have normally lasted. Its hard to step out of own constructive reality and see how mesed up it is, but its very easy to step out of someone elses constructive reality. This relationship of narrative constructions is really useful. The time duration is really short, like an insult. All of the depression experienced after is the second arrow, it can happen 5 hours later, 5 days, or 5 years later. Much of the time we are operating on autopilot. Peoples reasoning processes can be highjacked by their e(cid:373)otio(cid:374)al pro(cid:272)esses, a(cid:374)d the perso(cid:374) does(cid:374)"t e(cid:448)e(cid:374) realize it. You (cid:272)a(cid:374) (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ge so(cid:373)eo(cid:374)es agreeableness by giving them some positive or some negative stuff, and it will change their influences unconsciously.
