Being exposed to language at a later age might be difficult to acquire it, but the window won"t be closed, they"ll still be able to acquire it. Linguistic determinism: language determines your perception of the world, so people who speak different languages, meaning they structure their words, syntax differently, they wouldn"t be able to understand other people"s views. Linguistic relativism: reality isn"t completely determined by our language, but it is influenced by it. Aphasia: language impairment affecting the production and/or comprehension of speech. Aphasia is acquired, often times thorough having a stroke, traumatic brain injury, etc. People can have speech production (broca"s aphasia) or speech comprehension (wernicke"s aphasia) without it affecting other parts of the brain. Broca"s aphasia: difficulty producing words, comprehension is fine, but trouble with speech production.
