Lecture 4: Sensation and Perception Perception isnt reality Perception is unique, it is subjected to us. No two perception is the same Psychophysics - Sensation is the stimulation of sense organs -> is the same for everyone (uniform) - How we take energy from the world can convert it to neuro impulses in the brain - Ignore 90% of stuff around us, and only 10% is what we pay attention to because paying attention to everything would cause sensory overload - Based on unconsciousness - the 10% is unique to us (subjected to what we want to pay attention to based on various factors) - How we organize, select, understand, and see -> Perception Threshold - Absolute Threshold is the point at which the min. amount of energy that our stimulus activation can detect at 50% of the time (we have sense it ) - For conscious perception - Once we have Absolute Threshold, it becomes the Just noticeable difference - Is c
