Ethics: before conducting an experiment, researchers must identify ethical
considerations. How much harm is likely, are people being compensated for
Some circumstances will activate certain genes (e.g. nature vs. nurture)
Thinking, even rational thinking, is always influenced by emotions. Therefore,
rational thinking does not really exist.
Our own perspective will always limit us.
Convergence amongst different perspectives.
Thinking in terms of multiple causes changes how we understand many things.
E.g. what is depression??
Trying to understand depression very quickly spins off into side stories.
Depression is ultimately anything that emerges from the simultaneous reactions
of all these systems.
This means that you can affect depression with a bunch of different tools.
Psychologists try to think in terms of multiple levels.
Science is not just about facts we can never get in direct contact with the
world. It is about hypotheses, observations, and conclusions.
