Without signals such as unpleasant feelings (ex. hungry, tiredness) we would not realize we need to do certain things that are necessary for our survival: we need to sleep, eat, drink water etc. We need to know how to react to other people"s emotions: ex. If a baby is crying, we need to feed him, change his diaper etc. Human beings are social creatures and we need to feeling attachments and create relationships with others in order to survive: emotions pull us towards others. Certain emotions such as fear stop us from doing things that could potential hurt us (ex. jumping off a cliff: ex. Emotions drive us to achieve things, figure out our values, our likes and dislikes. We help others more when we feel empathy towards others.
