Document Summary

Cellular depends on molecular process during activated neuron; stm to ltm. Systems convert new ltm to old ltm. Temporary memory of phone number until you dial it. Animal definition: stm that lasts a few hours, not dependent on synthesis of new protein. Stm= memory that lasts a few hours after training. If test occurs 1 week, 1 month later = ability to retrieve ltm. Animal tested 1 hr after training, drug did not impair memory (stm intact) Animal testing 1 day after training, drug impaired (ltm impaired) Anything after acquisition is impaired = consolidation process. Animal behaviour impaired after 1 hr and after 1 day. Interpretation is tricky: impairment in stm and ltm * Acquisition disrupted and if reversible, it interrupts acquisition (?) Anisomycin blocks synthesis of new protein everywhere for a few hours; dependent on concentration. Tested memory retention: 1hr, 6 hr, 24hrs later. Anisomycin blocking of protein; protein synthesis necessary for ltm but not stm.
