Id/ego/superego has to do with the everyday, the now, the ordinary whereas the sacred has to do with the extraordinary. Both durkheim and eliade says religion focuses on things that surround the sacred. Sociology: father of sociology is emile durkheim. You study only observable facts and my studying these facts, you get an insight of all knowledge. It was possible to learn about anything if you study these observable facts. Also for durkheim, 2 historical events that took place, 2 revolutions were very important to him. One was an economic revolution; the industrial revolution. Second was a political revolution; the french revolution. These revolutions changed the pattern of life in western civilization. From villages to the cities people moved. There was a real division of social class. There are 4 key trends that durkheim observes.
