Document Summary

Rlg351 esack six ways to read the quran. In reflecting on diverse scholarly approaches to quran, he uses analogy of the personality and body of a beloved and the ways in qhich she is approached. Female body - objectified, ornamentalized, the body does something to the one approaching it, it is apporached by men. The presence and beauty of the beloved can trasnport the lover to another plane of being that enables him to experience ecstacy. It is adequate to enjoy the relationship without asking questions. This lover reflects the position of the ordinary muslim to the quran. The lover who wants to explain to the world why his beloved is the most sublime, a gift from god. He goes into detail about her virtues. This is the path of confessional muslim scholarship based on prior faith that the quran is the absolute word of god. He loves his beloved but also asks questions about her nature, origin, language.
