Global climate change & effects for business i. Why business managers need to understand the issues. It appears that the debate on global warming is about to come to an abrupt end. One can even say that, among the scientific community, it has already ended. With extreme weather events and continued melting of the polar ice caps the concern has now shifted to the rate of change and its broad implications for all life on the planet. Parts per million atmospheric concentrations of co2 are now over 380 parts per million (ppm) This is 100 ppm higher than before the industrial revolution. Believed to be the highest level in more than 1 million years. Ppm level is expected to increase to 550 by 2050. Energy-related emissions - from producing and burning coal, oil and natural gas contribute the most. Transportation; electricity and heat production are the principal drivers of energy emissions.
