Outline: human caused reductions to biodiversity, how to preserve biodiversity, conservation biology. Human causes of species endangerment: habitat loss, pollution, overexploitation, invasive species, climate change. Habitat loss: largest threat to species, destruction, fragmentation, degradation, as we fragment habitat, we leave small islands" of undisturbed habitat in a sea of disturbance, one of the main constructions: roads. The city of toronto and flwp (fatal light awareness program) estimates that one million birds are killed in building collisions in the city each year, particularly during spring and fall migrations. Pollution: acid precipitation, ozone depletion, climate change, direct or indirect poisoning, altered habitat from chemicals. Overexploitation: hunting and fishing, over-harvesting of game species. American passenger pigeon, american bison, whales, atlantic cod: endangered species consumption. (there exist also an endangered species market; some will look for alternatives when a species are in danger, others will find it more attractive: commercial harvest. Wildlife smuggling: predator and pest control.
