"boundless pride and contempt in face" but also trusting and simplehearted. Similar to the way he felt about marie (pity) Myshkin pities her instead of loving her, wants to understand her suffering. Important in part 1, but disappears in part 2. He thinks he has recognized her true self underneath everything. Women in family are not quite as we expect them to be.
