Transitional: out of the topic of rules (norms, etc. ) into which they socialize, or deviant. People participated in those are labelled deviant. Criminal at one time can be considered hero at another time (nelson mandela, gandhi, etc. ) Inequality is universal and so is resistance against inequality. Developed larger society: protest movements products of the 19th-21th century. People have some sense when they are being ripped off. Group of people get together voluntarily, freely. Not elites (rich and powerful) to protest, challenge the social order, to promote and demand the change in the rules and society. Takes on the goals of the society, the direction. Typically offers an alternate set of goals or rules in order to change the distribution of wealth and power. All about wealth and power, fairness and unfairness. Challenge to the perceived unfairness in the society. Exists only b/c of the perceived unfairness. Over throw of the existing system and replacement of the system with different rules.
