Concerns over government actions: ex) vietnam, rise of political and social movements seeking equality (civil rights, increased recognition of the effects of marginalization movements, harvey milk in san francisco) The organization of society reflects the competition of different groups, not common values: opposite of functionalism. As a group gains more resources they are better able to pursue their interests. Laws are designed to maintain privilege and power for those that control the means of production or other forms of domination. Crime is designed to control the behaviour of those without power/resources. It is a specific product of capitalism/competition for power: ex) drug dealing: threat to economic structures. = threat to authority of the federal government.
