What social units are responsible for making sure kids are taken care of and families are fed. Nuclear family are too small and cannot be key to survival in some communities. The survival strategy for forging societies was that they cooperated in the larger group rather than smaller families. Changes in family patterns for first nations people. Affects of the fur trade--> jesuits went from being hunters to trappers based on european experience. Not the jesuits who convinced others to change their practices. -> instead a changing society encouraged them to change. When europeans came they brought viruses to natives which had no immunities for them. Indian act allowed the government to gain control over first nations people. Don"t need to focus on specific details just know the main point. Not a nuclear family in the larger structure.
