In statuses and roles it can either be ascribed or achieved it is all about context, statuses don"t just turn on or off, Role: are situated identities which vary according to the demands of the context. The difference between the two, a status is something that you have no control of like race and gender. Status is in a way ascribed which means given and role is achieved or adapted. However, role is something that you yourself adapt. Statuses: is are position in a social hierarchy that come with a set of expectations. A master status is a social position thought to be the primary identifying characteristic of an individual. These position has a set of expectations and they are known.
