Heuristic (hands on approach to learning: not just about research, hands off approach to understanding and listening to problems or issues, new fine-tuned way of understanding things that people don"t want you to understand. Those that felt socially invisible like white women or black men, grew to make lots of writing and workshops to free people. Justice system, family life, education, family, employment, domestic violence. Corrective in sociological thought: these are not simply variables, but a way of understanding oppression that enables self- understanding and a vision for social justice/reconstruction. An underground railroad in the university, come above ground. A common language spanning across disciplines; hotly contested & debated. A tool kit for making one"s way in the world (work, social, citizen) Political urgency and utility in relation to inequality.
