Research methods are rules and procedures that social scientists use to approach a rese question. An aspect of social life/ behavior that fascinates you. The research approach you choose qualitative, quantitative, or mixed (fusion) is determined by your research question. Inductive - qualitative (start with data and move to theory) Deductive - quantitative (form theory and use data to affirm or deny theory) Advantages: allows scientists to model relationships and calculate statistics. Disadvantages: requires high volume of responses and can miss descriptive nuance. Advantages: descriptive, rich and detailed gives us important information about the inner wo the social world. Mixed methods: an approach to research that involves collecting analyzing and integrating qu and qualitative data = fusion. Process of describing what we mean when we use certain terms. Concepts are abstract and not directly observable but they are generally understood (eg lie) Conceptualization produces an agreed upon meaning for a concept for the purposes of resear.
