Document Summary

I was thinking of malaysia: ethnic composition of malaysia. Malaysian chinese dominate the business and commerce sectors of the malaysian community. According to the malaysian daily nanyang siang pao, (2012), ethnic chinese make up the 80% percent of the malaysia"s top 40 richest people. According to forbes magazine (2014), 8 out of 10 of the ten richest people in malaysia are ethnic chinese. Only 10 percent of the total workforce pay any income tax. Out of these 10 percent, chinese make up 80-90% of the taxpayers. The chinese in malaysia maintain a distinct communal identity and rarely intermarry with muslim malays, for religious and cultural reasons. Institutional racism and discrimination has led many malaysian chinese to emigrate out of the country in recent decades. We are seeing an increase in inequality in both the developed and developing world. The gap between the global rich and the global poor is growing. Economic development is mostly enjoyed by the global rich.
