Document Summary

Translation into sickness (crime = lec 9), conflict (10) Experimental method = identification of cause and effect : not possible in social science. Data is from conjectures so there are always alternative explanations to explain problems. Inequality has effects; correlated with dependent variables: sickness, crime, conflict with a likely causal relationship. Inequality disempowers people; depriving them of important resources (ie. income inequality) for various reasons (income inequality is easy to understand; it is quantifiable) Effect on social economy: reducing connections and isolation occurring relating to breaking down contact, but rather different amounts of information are available to different groups; problematic as society runs on information. Devalues people, people are conscious of self-worth and tends to undermine the sense of worth or self-esteem which is harmful. Hospitals treat different patients in different ways: data from patients from 2008-2010 for about 2-3 years to 20 hospitals in the toronto central health network.
