Document Summary
What is happening in a given population. Something that is influential to the world over. Age structure: number or proportion of people in a given population of a given age. This population pyramid => some ages with diff proportion of males and females. Young population (big on bottom and thin on top => triangle) Mean: what is the average age of population. Skewed very easily => sensitive to outlier values. Mode: single most common value in the age population. Ex: pakistan: mode = 0- 1 age (high fertility) Proportions: percentage of population at a certain age. Dependency ratio (oadr): take people"s age less than 15 and people 65 and older are considered dependent , productive are those ages 15-64 (active) Age < 15 and 65+ ( dependent )/ age 15-64 ( active) Used because it is simple to calculate. Workers are directly paying the pension plays of the older adults. As dependency ratio change => change in tax rate.
