Idenity categories are socially constructed: problemaic for a number of reasons. Lump together who are not of the same category (man, women, hetero, homo ) Come in binary terms that has one superior term and one inferior; rests on the opposite/inferior term. Lesbians and gays: oppressive constructs that disciplines, subjecive. Performaivity is the repeiion of doing the category over creaing an illusion. Women category: females trying to be women, they keep doing" women but they never quite make it to being" women. Performance is too excessive, or falling short etc. We do the category over and over because we can never achieve the category. Presents the illusion that the category is real, stable or natural in some way. Gender is the efect of the repeiion, not the cause.
