Apocalyptic is from apocalypsis: unveiling (Greek)
1.A way of thinking

oHinduism/Buddhism
2.A genre of writing (2nd Century BCE to 2nd CE)
3.A set of texts including:
a.The Book of Daniel
b.The Revelation to John
1.A way of thinking
Judaism: apocalyptic is post-Biblical
Christianity: apocalyptic at its core
Islam: 1/3 of Koran is reported to deal with matters of the last
judgment
Other traditions: also have apocalyptic thinking at its core
Abrahamic traditions: define time as uni-linear and finite
oTherefore, with the end, the apocalypse comes
Hinduism circular notion of time, end of age begins a new world
o4 stages in each age (now, we live in a final stage of this age
believed to be the worst)
