Islam: 1/3 of koran is reported to deal with matters of the last judgment. other traditions: also have apocalyptic thinking at its core. abrahamic traditions: define time as uni-linear and finite: therefore, with the end, the apocalypse comes. hinduism circular notion of time, end of age begins a new world: 4 stages in each age (now, we live in a final stage of this age believed to be the worst, genre of writing. early origins were likely referring to politics and current issues of their time, not just distant events: set of texts. 2: offer a promise, vindication, or consolation, authorization of message. Main idea: apocalypticism is alive and well in pc today. I t is something with long traditions, as seen in apocalyptic literature.
