Statistics is the study of the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data. Data (plural of datum ) are the results of measurements, can be the basis of graphs, images, or observations of a set of variables. It provides a basis for the whole range of techniques that are used within applications of statistics. Population is data that we are interested in. Objective of statistics is to make an inference about a population based on information contained in a sample. Example: we roll two dice and observe the sum of numbers. Numerical descriptive measures: measure of central tendency, measure of dispersion or variation. Definition: the mean of a sample of n measured responses is given by.
