Duchamp: proto-conceptual artist => shaped movement; was concerned with ideas behind art. Art could exist beyond painting and sculpture. Thought and idea > form and aesthetics. Art as philosophy, math, social criticism, life-risking, storytelling. Older master = usually revered; rauschenberg did the opposite. Erased de kooning drawing is a work of art in its erased state. Piero manzoni - canned and labeled his own excrement; created work by body. Contradicts our concept of art and beauty. Manzoni signed people => signed documents that this was authentic art. Yves klein - leap into the void - proto-conceptualist; first performance artwork. Montaged 2 photos together; originally had students ready to catch him; 2 photos taken at same time, one with him, one without and photomontaged. Printed his photo on top of dimanche newspaper => it becomes its own work. Made his own patented colour = artistic created. Anthropometries - performance art; paints with bodies; attractive women as paintbrushes; subjects to his will.
