Why is it important that teacher be aware of classroom relationships: practical aspects (seating and work groupings, children with good peer relations achieve greater school success, affects children"s well-being. Social cognition: children"s ability to think about their world. Includes several key aspects: social perspective-taking, person perceptions, race and ethnicity conceptions. In order to understand and form relations with others, it is necessary to understand their perspectives: more than this, it is important to understand that someone might think/believe/see something differently than you do. Perspective understanding begins in infancy with the ability to understand the self as distinct from others. False belief develops between the ages of 3-5 years. Many common types of false belief tasks: unexpected-contents. Give a child a familiar container of something (smarties or crayolas) but change the inside of the box of container. Children who have not developed false belief will say they thought there would be pencils in the box.
