Number line stuff change activities a bit and connect to the literature. Working memory and math: check for comprehension. Lots of research on attention fluency and attention. Situate where lesson will go into the curriculum. May take 2-3 days for a non-advanced class but 1 day for an advanced class. Have to use empirical papers: stay away from teaching journals, descriptions, case studies, want to infuse lessons we are planning with data. Alfieri et al: worked examples, scaffolding, feedback, elicited examples. Avoiding cognitive overload: repetition, practice, looking at the prior knowledge students need for a lesson *** (important to think about this for the paper, making sure children have basic skills and knowledge they need. Psychology: minimizing hierarchies/ranking, raise the bar incrementally. Give examples of this in the lesson plan. Need to make sure math is coherent. Concreteness fading move from concrete materials to more abstract thinking.
