Citizenship is the condition of legally belonging to a nation: right and responsibilities and relationship to the state, political rights, civil rights and social right. Raymond williams keywords: the term welfare was used from the 14th century to denote happiness or prosperity. Introducing a feminist analysis complicated this picture in two ways . It highlighted the role of feminist activism on extracting concessions from the state. It reconsiders established histories, focusing on their underlying assumptions around gender. Reconsidering established histories reveals how they were underpinned by a maternalist ideology: heteronormative nuclear family, non-working wife, male breadwinner. Public support was therefore considered if male worker was absent or injured/unable to work. Public support for women was not meant to threaten the masculinist basis of family wage. Women are merely seen as merely wives or mothers and nothing more - aren"t seen as their own person.
