It is window-dressing: everything new that comes out of the police must include community policing aspect, public relations. More efficient use of police services through changes in organization and management. Decreased fear of crime and increased public safety. Increased job satisfaction and officer productivity: when officers feel more connected to the community, the productivity increases. Mini-stations: part of a storefront, a mall, strip plaza, schools. Police-community relations programs: police officers holding barbeques, basketball leagues, etc. Idea that police become more involved in crime prevention rather than law enforcement. Prevention -> nipping crime in the bud, law enforcement -> punishing those who have already violated the law. Community surveys: ask the community: what do you want from us, how can we serve you better. Lack of community participation: community policing works best in white middle class neighbourhoods with single family homes. Conflict in heterogeneous communities: difficult to meet everyone s needs, people are all different and want different things.
