In 20th century most research tend to focus on deviant women/ most often sexual deviance and prostitution, focused on morality, poverty, and most of time focus on the fact that these women had a problem (moral, psychological ) Davis: prostitution is functional to society/ forms a safety to the family/ [now a days, really functional to men but not to women] Inductive (start with research and conclude a theory) to deductive (start with theory and then do research) Focus on kids (12 to 16 years old) late 70"s and early 80"s. Data collected from high schools and handed out surveys/ The power and control in the household and labour market led to more risk taking for egalitarian girls. Based on balance of theory and survey/ evidence much stronger for this theory/ Critic: kind of blaming mothers of the egalitarian families/ doesn"t look at kids who are not in school/
