ANTH 240 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Star Carr, Semiotics, Pineapple
Document Summary
This is a mesolithic site in britain, dated to about 9000 bc. It was originally in a very peaty area of yorkshire. As a result, the site has a lot of wood preserved on the site still. Unfortunately, the peat is drying out and it"s causing damage to the site. There is now a project for its salvation. The site is on a farm and the farmer is not too keen on people digging there year-round, so they have a small window. The excavation has been taking place since about 2002, and has not been very well published until recently (especially because of the farmer). In this site, we"ve found a stone pendant and an antler skullcap. There is an entire exhibit in york dedicated to the stone pendant. Hermeneutics is the how we interpret (methods and theory) . It is relatively recent to archaeology (1980s and 1990s). Studies signs, sign processes and their use in meaningful communication.
