Nasa"s plan for an off-world colony: a floating city above venus - this is a real headline. Venera series: produced the only images of venus. Equipment melted on the surface - ussr sent back other equipment. Craters tell us roughly the age of the land. Venus atm is thicker so slightly larger meteors will burn up too - only large collisions are visible on the surface. Something happened to the entire surface of venus at some point in history. Planet is very hot - gravity of the planet pushing down builds up pressure - increases heat. Heat bursts out in planet-wide eruption, releases pressure, cools down again. Understand the atm by taking data from orbit. Venus has 90x the amount of mass that earth"s atm has. Floating cities would exist at 50km up in venus atm. Any oxygen in the atm would quickly react with other elements. Look at other planets to see how they handle greenhouse gases.
