Entity theorists: tend to think traits are xed ( xed mindset: the kind of person someone is, is something very basic that cant be changed very much. Incremental theorists: tend to think traits are changeable (growth mindset: everyone, no matter who the person is, can signi cantly change his or her basic characteristics. Entity theorists compared to incremental theorists are more likely to believe that a persons underlying character can be revealed by a single behaviour or performance. Experience setbacks in their academic performance as re ecting their lack of ability. As a result, tend to become defensive and often feel helpless when they experience setbacks. Incremental theorists tend to think they can do better. Brainology: malleability of intelligence: the brain is a muscle that can be strengthen with hard work. Junior high school students with low math scores were given 8 sessions in study skills training. Half of students received instructions in the malleability of intelligence.
