Jean piaget (1896-1980) the father of modern developmental psychology. Schema: concept or framework that organizes and interprets information. Accommodation: adapting current schemas to incorporate new info: the differences between cats and dogs. Piaget"s stage 1: sensorimotor (birth- 2yrs, infants acquire info about the world by sensing and moving around within it. The mouth is the most sensitive part of the body and therefore, they put everything in their mouths: object permanence: objects continue to exist even when they are not visible. Out of sight out of mind if a parent hides a teddy bear under a blanket, the child truly thinks its gone. Piaget stage 2: preprational (2-7yrs, pretend to play, social development, egocentric. They assume the gifts their parents want are what they want: theory of mind: people"s ideas about their own and others" meals states- about their feelings, perceptions, and thoughts. Children will assume sally knows what why know if they don"t have theory of mind.
