Test selection considerations: population, ease and feasibility of test administration, ease of normative data, validity and reliability. Interpretation of the test results to indicate a persons performance in comparison to a set of standards or norms. For multiple trial tests, the score can be the: best score or the mean score of trials. Standards can be: norm referenced or criterion referenced. Minimum proficiency scores (ie pass or fail) More commonly used in heath and performance testing. May add meaning for clients by incorporating data interpretation tables. Things to consider when selecting norm values: type of test and protocol used, defintion and demographics of population being compared to, test administration, values published by a reputable source. The ability of a test to measure accurately. The degree to which a test measures what it purports to measure. Dependent on reliability, relevance and appropriateness of the scores. The test effectively measures the desired construct. Example; the vertical jump test measures leg power.
