Homeric hymns: a set of poems in same pattern of homer"s epics, but only for one god, Aphrodite is the earliest one: all of them have invocation, name of god and description. Invocation: request for a favour and promise of worships in the future. Last of the hymn, the deity is the humans favourite and a human could be a deity"s favourite, promise of worship is usually song of them. Description: sacred places to the god, upbringing, typical activities and domains of power, attributes and myths: activities will be linked to attributes of god, length of myth depends on length of hymn. Why did the age of heroes end: a time when gods used to hang with us, bigger, stronger warriors, several approaches. Illustration of powers of the goddess: helps answer other questions. Venus: aphrodite, frequently depicted as nude- greatest power when nude.
